Dolores Bas (Argentina)

I am excited to attend COP30 because it will take place close to home, in my beloved neighboring country, Brazil. But for me, this will not be just another COP. It is a Latin American COP, and that means something: our region’s voices are rarely at the center of the negotiations, and this moment feels long overdue. It is not a minor detail—it carries the possibility of changing the lives of millions who have been waiting for an end to extractivism, for concrete adaptation measures, and for the climate finance that the Global North has the responsibility to deliver.

I also hope this COP will help raise the profile of the Escazú Agreement, which is crucial for our region. People in the Amazon know this reality firsthand: Latin America is the most dangerous region in the world for environmental defenders. I want to see whether this COP will finally allow the world to confront that truth.
